Sankeien Garden is an important historical heritage site that boasts unique charm and value even in Yokohama, which has many popular tourist spots.

Hara Sankei (pen name; his real name Hara Tomitaro), a businessman who made his fortune through the raw silk trade, opened this garden to the public in 1906, believing that “a beautiful natural landscape is a common property that should be enjoyed by all.”

Historical buildings relocated from Kyoto and Kamakura are artfully arranged on a vast site of 175,000 square meters. For example, there are a three-story pagoda built in 1457 and a tea room said to have been built by Oda Uraku, Oda Nobunaga's younger brother. In addition, seasonal flowers and plants such as plums, cherry blossoms, lotuses, and autumn leaves enhance the charm of the old building.

As of 2023, there are 17 historical buildings, including 10 national important cultural properties and 3 tangible cultural properties designated by Yokohama City.

In 2007, the entire garden, which combines these old architectural buildings with the surrounding natural environment, was recognized as a cultural property and designated as a national scenic spot.

As a new proposal that utilizes this historical and cultural heritage, we will sell a special accommodation experience at Sankeien Garden as a high-value-added travel package for people both in Japan and overseas.
