Kyoto Hosomi Museum Exhibit Part Ⅰ Games of the Capital and Beauty of the Dynasty

2012_02_03.jpg Hosomi Museum was founded in Okazaki, Kyoto in 1998 based on the collection of three generations of the Hosomi family, beginning from the late Osaka industrialist, Hosomi Ryo (first generation Kokoan). The collection features works of Japanese art representing almost all major time periods and categories. Items from Jyomon and Yayoi period to Buddhist/Shinto art, ink painting, tea ceremony kettles and other craftworks, modern genre painting, as well as Edo painting such as Rimpa and Jakuchu Ito can be found.
At the 2012 Sogo Museum of Art, Kyoto Hosomi Museum Exhibit will be held in two sessions to display selected pieces from Hosomi collection.

Part I will be "Games of the Capital and Beauty of the Dynasty -Love Beauty, Know Kyoto-"
Since thee Heian period, Kyoto has been the center of culture for generations. Art born in the capital has been the source of waka (Japanaese poetry) and story tales, elegant games, and festivals like Gion Festival and Kamo Horse Race of the Heian Dynasty.
This exhibit will introduce the beauty of the capital that has been protected and cultivated through ages through 80 pieces related to Kyoto including painting of the poetry immortals and story tales, folding screens with pictures of festivals and excursions, flamboyant furnishing goods, painting of scenic artist of Kyoto such as Sotatsu Tawaraya, Okyo Maruyama, Jakuchu Ito, and modern artist Sekka Kamisaka.
