Yokohama Museum of Art - Fuyuko Matsui ‐Becoming Friends with All the Children in the World-
Exhibit of one of the most presently noted painter, Fuyuko Matsui will be held for the first time in public museum. Fuyuko Matsui (born 1974) first learned oil painting but after seeing the attractiveness and possibilities of the way of expression by traditional Japanese painting, she entered Japanese Painting Course, Department of Painting in Tokyo University of the Arts. The graduation work "Becoming Friends with in All the Children in the World" has a theme which starts from physical and metal pain arising from artistic expression, which is the origin of works of Matsui who creates provocative works under theme of fear, insanity, narcissism, sex, and life and death.
This exhibition will exhibit 100 paintings including representative finished works, drafts that show the error and trial, sketches draw in detail, and works newly painted for this exhibition. You will be able to see the progress of Matsui from "Becoming Friends with All the Children in the World". New paintings such as "Promenade of The Mourning" released in France in 2010 and exhibited in Japan for the first time, "Place of Bodies", and newly painted works. During the exhibition, film works directed for the first time by Matsui will also be exhibited (March 2012).
