

The 10th Hakkeijima Hydrangea Festival will be held to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the port of Yokohama. You can enjoy the sight of various hydrangea plants at “Ajisai no Niwa (Hydrangea Garden)” and “Ajisai no Taki (Hydrangea Falls)”, and the newly introduced walking trail by the sea, “Umi to Ajisai no Sanpomichi” where you will be able to see the flags of the 5 countries, which are related to the opening of the port, created with colorful flowers. About twenty thousand gorgeous hydrangea plants will be in bloom around rainy season every year. A stamp rally and tea ceremonies will be held and photos collected from the public will be displayed during the festival. One of the largest hydrangea plant displays in Kanagawa will color the Hakkeijima Hydrangea Festival.
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the opening of the port of Yokohama, a walking trail by the sea called "Umi to Ajisai no Sanpomichi" will be introduced where you will be able to see the flags of the 5 countries (United States, England, France, Holland, and Russia), which are related to the opening of the port, created with colorful flowers and hydrangea associated with each country.

It’s in the center of the hydrangea garden path. You will be able to see various kinds of hydrangea plants. You will also be able to see 500 roses made up of 30 varieties until the middle of June.



The hydrangea garden path stamp rally has been held since the festival started. You can participate in the stamp rally for free on any day during the festival at while you enjoy walking around the garden path where you will be able to see about twenty thousand hydrangea plants. Participants will get a shopping discount, and the participants who complete the stamp rally will get a discount for the tickets for the Aqua Resorts and the One Day Pass, as well as a hydrangea strap (limited) which will be handed out on a first-come-first-served basis. On top of those, the participants who complete the stamp rally will have a chance to win a trip to Malaysia, a domestic hot spring trip or hotel coupons when they go to the aquarium, attractions, shops or restaurants in Hakkeijima. You can enjoy walking and winning prizes!

Photos submitted by the public will be displayed during the festival. Winners will get prizes such as hotel vouchers for the top prize. Please submit your favorite photo of beautiful hydrangea in Hakkeijima. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Hydrangea Festival, a handcraft class to make hydrangea shaped straps made with beads will be held in the same space on weekends. Ajisai Cruise ~Sai~Why don’t you go on a cruise on a ship decorated with lots of hydrangea?
The photos which won the hydrangea photo contest in past events will be displayed.
Feel the cool breeze and enjoy the view of hydrangea with a female captain.

There will be sweets which are associated with hydrangea and special dishes only offered during the festival. After the feast for your eyes, you can have a feast for your stomach!




Hakkeijima Sea Paradise has 14 attractions which have an ocean theme. Aqua Resorts is one of the biggest aquariums in Japan with a theme of "Exchange of Sea and People". There are 6 sections in the aquarium including a theater and a performance stage for seals and dolphins. You are able to touch them and feed them in the open air area. Visit with your family and friends! Everybody, from children to adults, will have a good time!
